Online Ordering System
Into POS and Kitchen.

OrderWorks gives you online ordering into the POS and kitchen, without commission. It is the TimeWorks online ordering system: customers order from their phone, and each order rings up on your till and shows on your kitchen display. You pay no per-order commission.

Commission on Every Order

POS, kitchen, no commission

Online ordering into the POS and kitchen,
without commission.

Online ordering into the POS and kitchen, without commission, is what the OrderWorks online ordering system is for. A customer orders on their phone, the order rings up on your TimeWorks till as if it was taken at the counter, it goes to the kitchen without anyone typing it in, and you pay no commission on it. You keep the order value, the customer's details and the relationship.

Search for online ordering and most of what comes back is an app-store listing or a sign-up page for an ordering app. A listing shows you what the customer sees. It does not tell you where the order goes once it is placed. If it lands on a separate tablet, someone still has to read it and punch it into the till, and the kitchen hears about it last. OrderWorks is built into TimeWorks, so there is no second screen to watch: online orders print to the kitchen or show on the TimeWorks kitchen display, stock comes off after each order, and online sales sit in the same daily sales and VAT report as your counter sales.

What you pay instead of commission

OrderWorks has no per-order commission, whether you take ten orders a day or a thousand. What you do pay is the POS behind it and the card fees on online payments:

  1. The POS software. TimeWorks software is R350 or R500 per month excluding VAT. Compare the two on the TimeWorks software plans page; the R500 plan includes remote order slips and kitchen displays.
  2. Or the whole system on rental. POS rental is from R995 per month excluding VAT and includes the hardware, the software and support. Daily rental for a pop-up or event is quoted on request.
  3. Payment gateway fees. Online card and EFT payments go through PayFast or Ozow, and the gateway charges per transaction. PayFast's published fees are 3.2% plus R2.00 for a card payment and 2% (minimum R2.00) for Instant EFT, excluding VAT. Ozow's pricing page lists 2.85% for local card payments in its first band (R0 to R249,999.99). That fee goes to the gateway, not to TimeWorks, and it is a published payment-processing rate, not a marketplace commission.

OrderWorks itself is a flat monthly subscription with no commission. The fee is on request, so contact us for pricing or ask when you book a demo. Prices are in rand and exclude VAT, which SARS levies at the standard rate of 15%.

Why commission matters for South African restaurants

The Competition Commission looked at food delivery in its Online Intermediation Platforms Market Inquiry. Its 2023 summary of findings names Uber Eats and Mr D Food as the leading platforms, finds that both charge independent restaurants a much higher commission than the chains, and says the commission is typically passed on to customers through a menu surcharge. It required both platforms to tell consumers, through a periodic pop-up, that they charge restaurants a commission and that in-store prices may differ.

A delivery app still brings you customers who have never heard of you, and many venues keep one for that. Direct ordering is for the regulars who already know your name: they order from your own link, at your own prices, and the order costs you no commission. If you also run delivery apps, our guide to connecting delivery platforms to your POS explains how those orders can reach the same till.

The customer list stays yours, within POPIA

Customer details captured at checkout go into the TimeWorks CRM, not a platform's database. Use them carefully. Section 69 of POPIA allows electronic direct marketing to an existing customer only if you got their contact details when you sold them something, you are marketing your own similar products or services, and they were given a reasonable, free chance to object. Add an opt-out to every WhatsApp, SMS or email offer you send.

Who it suits

It fits venues where the kitchen is the bottleneck: fast food and QSR counters that take orders ahead of the lunch rush, sit-down kitchens on a TimeWorks restaurant POS that add QR ordering at the table, and coffee shops that want collection orders ready when the customer walks in. The OrderWorks integration page lists everything that syncs between the two systems.

Why OrderWorks

Less Queueing.
Fewer Re-keyed Orders.

  • timer

    Reduce Wait Times

Self-service ordering eliminates the queue at the counter and reduces pressure on front-of-house staff during peak periods.

  • check_circle

    Increase Order Accuracy

Customers enter their own preferences, and the order reaches the kitchen exactly as they typed it, so nothing is lost between the waiter and the pass.

  • trending_up

    Show Add-ons on Every Order

Your online menu can show add-ons, combos and extras next to each item, so every customer sees them, not only the ones a busy cashier remembers to ask.

    Reduce Staffing Pressure

One fewer staff member taking orders means your team can focus on food quality, table experience, and delivery speed, where hospitality actually lives.

Common Questions

What an online ordering system is, how OrderWorks works and connects to your POS, and what it costs.

An online ordering system lets customers order and pay for food from a website, a QR code or an app instead of at the counter or over the phone. A good one also sends the order into your point of sale and kitchen. OrderWorks is the TimeWorks online ordering system: orders ring up on your TimeWorks till as if they were taken at the counter and go to the kitchen without anyone re-typing them, with no per-order commission.
With OrderWorks it is three steps. The customer scans your QR code at the table, or opens your branded ordering link or app. They choose from your live menu, customise items and pay online by card or EFT, or choose cash on delivery if you allow it. The order then appears on your TimeWorks POS and goes to the kitchen printer or kitchen display, and the stock is deducted.
On TimeWorks it takes four steps: activate OrderWorks from the TimeWorks software licence panel, upload your menu items, photos and prices from your existing TimeWorks catalogue, set your delivery radius, minimum order value and hours, then share your branded order link with customers. Book a demo first and we will walk you through it and give you the OrderWorks monthly fee, which is on request.
Put your order link and QR code where your customers already are: on packaging, receipts, table cards and in-store signage, in your WhatsApp customer groups, on Instagram and on your Google Business Profile. A small first-order offer, such as free delivery on the first direct order, helps move regulars off delivery apps. When you market to past customers by WhatsApp, SMS or email, follow section 69 of POPIA and give them a free way to opt out.
There is no per-order commission, so the cost does not grow with your order count. OrderWorks is a flat monthly subscription, and the fee is on request: contact us for pricing. The POS behind it is R350 or R500 per month excluding VAT for the software, or rental from R995 per month excluding VAT including hardware, software and support. Online card and EFT payments carry the payment gateway's own fee, for example PayFast's published 3.2% plus R2.00 per card payment, excluding VAT.
No. OrderWorks is a flat monthly subscription with no commission on any order you receive. You keep the full order value, whether you take 10 orders a day or 1,000. The only per-transaction cost is your payment gateway's fee on online card or EFT payments.
The integration is built directly into the TimeWorks POS platform. Orders placed through your branded app flow straight into your POS terminal and kitchen display system in real time, exactly as if a cashier had rung the order up. No additional hardware, middleware, or manual steps required.
Yes. Any change you make to your menu or stock levels in TimeWorks POS is reflected immediately in the OrderWorks app. Items that are sold out or temporarily unavailable can be marked as such instantly. No re-publishing required.
Absolutely. You can configure your app to accept delivery orders with address capture, click & collect with estimated ready times, or both simultaneously. Each fulfilment type has its own settings, including delivery zones, fees and the hours it runs.
